Phew. This last month has been a whirlwind. If you're following me on Instagram or friends with me on Facebook, you know that I've been in extensive treatment at Mclean hospital. Coming down from a four-month mixed bipolar episode (hypomania, mania, and depression), I came closer than I've ever come to committing suicide. It was fucking terrifying. Turns out mixed episodes are the most dangerous kind of bipolar because a person can be so depressed that they're suicidal while mania simultaneously gives them the energy to kill themselves. That's where I was at. So, I'm immensely grateful to be alive and healing.
I got a diagnosis of bipolar two, joining the ranks of some brilliant artists, writers, and actresses. Fun facts, all of these celebrities and/or creative types were diagnosed with bipolar: Carrie Fisher, Demi Lovato, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lily Allen, Chris Brown, Mel Gibson, Mary Lambert, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Cobain, Frank Sinatra, Britney Spears, Van Gogh, Ernest Hemingway.
I've been learning more about my diagnosis including stats from a recent study that say writers are 121% more likely to suffer from bipolar than the rest of the population. HA. I wish someone told me this before as I manically wrote thousands of words day after day over the last six months. *Eyeroll* Isn't it funny how some of the very characteristics we hold near and dear are the same ones that can kill us?
SO. I don't really care that this is a stream of consciousness post (okay, I kind of care, but I'm going to post this anyways). I wanted to share two things:
1.) A Gofundme campaign I'm running to pay my bills from my two-week inpatient psychiatric stay. Any and all donations are SO appreciated. Plus, you'll get amazing mental health art, which is the next thing...
2.) While in inpatient, I made 28 pieces of art in 8 days. I was still coming off my manic phase... lol, and per usual, I channeled the energy into something creative! Some of these are on sale to raise money for my hospital bills. Visit the shop to see which ones are on sale.
